The trainer

Living in rural Saskatchewan, I first became interested in dog training when I watched my grandfather train our German Shepherd, Rex. We had 50 + head of cattle and Rex was trained as a cattle dog. The relationship between my grandfather and Rex was a real kinship. They shared a true symbiotic relationship and I could see that Rex was my grandfather’s best friend.

I was lucky to spend every weekend and holiday on the farm. Watching and learning from my grandfather. Being around dogs my entire childhood in both rural and urban settings ( I went to school in Saskatoon), gave me a real understanding of dogs and their language and the relationship between dogs and humans. It taught me the importance of training the dogs and teaching them to be social and have good manners, like taking turns, and not touching things they shouldn’t (Leave-it) in order to live in harmony with their family.

Over the years I’ve had many dogs. Several at one time. I’ve trained Dalmatian’s, Border Collie’s, Jack Russell Terrier’s, Yorkie, Maltese, ShiTzu’s, an English Pointer, an Afghan hound, Golden Retriever’s, Golden Doodle’s, and German Shepherd’s to name a few. While all of them had individual characteristics, they all had the same dog language.

Since moving to the Metchosin district and losing the last dog from my former pack, I went and purchased two Golden Doodles a year apart, Riley and Mia. Golden Retrievers and Poodles are very intelligent so having the mix is no exception. While training them, I realized how much I enjoy working with them and decided to take it a step further to become a professional dog trainer. During my training, I am welcoming others to join the Pawsitive Pup K9 family by attending our daycare or walks. I am also going to be teaching obedience classes one-on-one to pups/dogs and their parents.

I look forward to working with you and your pup/dog to partner in training.
